I watched a youtube thing from Dancing With Stars. They said this dude created a new dance he calls SWOP. Swing and Hip Hop. They did some cool stuff and I do like the idea of incorporating new moves but I don't think that I have seen a successful intergration of the two dances. I'm still working on it.

I too have seen people trying to define a sort of merge with a word to call it by. I think our difficulties in this dance-splicing will continue to be fruitless until we can find the music to fit it.

Bringing in Hip-Hop steps to Lindy is no new thing and is awesome, but at the end of the day, it's still a polar bear (aka Lindy.)

And the same goes for vice-versa, I've seen a clip or two of hip hop dancers throwing in some charleston rhythms, but it's unmistakeable as hip hop, not swing.

And I think the key is the music. Where do hip-hop and swing music meet?

Very well said and yet these are questions that I don't think I have the answers to just yet. But....if you come to the HSF, we might just find those answers.... Wink

Stop plugging your event so much! We're coming, dammit! Cool

I don't know a heck of a lot about music, but it seems hard to put hip-hop and swing together. Doesn't hip hop tend to be pretty 'straight up' as far as rhythm goes? Bah, I don't know enough about music. =P
