Swingin’ at the Crossroads

Join Swing Des Moines! in welcoming Joel and Alison Plys to the Crossroads of America for a fun packed weekend of instruction and Swing dancing.

The weekend starts with Jive Junction, Swing Des Moines! monthly swing dance held at the West Des Moines Community Center in historic Valley Junction.

Saturday and Sunday will see a total of 10 hours of instruction in several of the Swing Dance disciplines, including 20’s Charleston, both Solo and Partner, Jazz movement, Lindy, Balboa, and Collegiate Shag, and the weekend classes will end with the Madison.

Saturday night Swing Des Moines! will be hosting another dance with a band that will be announced soon.

The cost for the entire weekend of classes and dances is as follows:

Before July 31st - $45
After July 31st - $65
Out of state groups of 10 or more – 15% off current rate (email for details)

Individual Workshop - $15
Friday Dance only - $5 general public, $3 SDSM members
Saturday Dance only - $10

With only one month to go before the Coolest Weekend Workshop to ever hit Des Moines, we have some updates.

First, we are excited to announce that the Jaztronauts will be the band for Saturday nights dance. That's right, those Hep dudes from the Twin Cities will be laying down the tunes for your dancing pleasure.

Second, we have updated the website with Hotel information for those of you who are coming from out of town. The downtown Marriot has a block of rooms reserved at a special price of $102 for a double room. This hotel is two blocks from the convention center where the workshops and Saturday nights dance will be held. It is also on Des Moines famous skywalk system which is especially handy if it's rainy or cold that weekend.

Also, due to generous support we are able to offer Special Pricing to all Iowa College Students. Any full time student of any College in Iowa can get the Swing Des Moines! members rate for the weekend, but only with advanced registration. Just select, Weekend Package, Member Rate and email us your name and what school you go to, and we'll accept the registration. Please bring your student ID with you when you pick up your registration materials for the weekend.
