Welcome Campers!

Camp Jitterbug is finally here and we are so excited for this year’s event!! We have record attendance and dancers from all over the world attending. Here are some details to remember as well as some important updates. Remember, all of the details for the weekend are found at campjitterbug.com.

Jump Session Show Tickets
Now that we are in a much larger theatre this year, we have some tickets still available for sale. Tickets can be purchased at campjitterbug.com…just look for the JS ticket link. Tickets will also be available at the door for purchase. This is truly a magical part of the weekend, so don’t miss out!!

Online Registration closes May 19th
We are closing online registration on May 19th. If you want to register after May 19th, you will need to show up at the door, space permitting.

Tracks and waiting lists for follows
This year we are follow heavy, so we have closed registration to follows in the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced tracks. We will allow follows to register IF they have a lead register with them or space permitting if there are some no-shows. This can be done at the door on Friday or Saturday registration and check in times.

Competitions and waiting lists
UPDATE: Jack & Jill and Lindy Hop Couples competitions are sold out!
Campers who have registered on the website for the competition(s) will get their numbers in their registration packets. Non-camper competitors who have registered via the website will have their numbers held at registration on Friday. After that all numbers will be held with the Competition Coordinator, Sheri Yau, the night of the competition.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Lindy Hop Couples and Jack and Jill Competitors MUST CHECK-IN for each competition ONE HOUR prior to the scheduled time of the competition or their spots will be released!! By 1/2 hour prior to the competition, any open spots will be given to those on the waitlist. Therefore, anyone who has registered on the waitlist should check in 30 minutes before the competition starts to see if they will be called to compete that night. For the Solo Charleston contest, competitors just need to check-in when they arrive at the late night party. Any questions or concerns, please direct them to Sheri Yau at competitions@campjitterbug.com. Thanks and GOOD LUCK!!!

How to get to Friday Registration and Check In
Friday evening’s events (registration & check-in, the Red Square Jam, the Jump Session Show and the evening dance) are located in the University District. Once you receive your packets, there will be maps for you, but here are some directions on how to get from Capitol Hill to the U District for the initial registration and check-in.
To get to UW Campus from I-5 North or Southbound
. Take the exit for NE 45th St
. Turn East onto NE 45th St
. Turn right at 15th Ave NE
. Turn left on NE 41th St into the garage
. Paid parking is available for Jump Session, the weekend dances fall under the UW Complimentary Parking provisions. The lot closest to Kane Hall is a parking garage labeled C1-C5 Central Plaza Parking Garage. Parking is $5 in the evening, free after 12pm on Saturday, and free Sundays and Holidays.
. The entrance to C1-C5 is at 15th Ave NE and 41st St, there is a stoplight to get into the garagem and the fastest way to get from Kane Hall to the HUB is by walking directly behind the libraries on the trails. The path will be marked with Camp Jitterbug signs.
Bus Options: The bus runs regularly throughout Seattle, and costs only $1.50 one way. Below are the options for getting to UW, getting from UW to Late Night, and then back to Capitol Hill, where the hotel is located.
Capitol Hill to UW Campus - you can take Routes 43 or 49- they run every 15 minutes, with various stops along Broadway, and drop you off on 15th Ave NE, across from Campus, near Kane Hall.
UW HUB to Washington Dance Club - you can catch Route 71 or 72 at University Way NE and NE 41st St. It will drop you off at Stewart St and 9th Ave, less than one block from WDC.
Washington Dance Club to Capitol Hill - you can take Route MT 83 from Fairview Ave N and Valley, transfer to Route MT 84 at 4th and University, and it will drop you off at E Pine St and Madison. This is the Night Owl Bus loop, and runs until 3am.
Parking in Seattle - Street parking is free Monday thru Saturday after 6pm and all day on Sundays and Holidays. There are paid lots throughout the city that range in price from as low as $5. Please note that free parking on Capitol Hill can be difficult to find, and parking at the Naval Armory is limited, so carpool when possible!

We need more hosts!!
Our Seattle locals have been so generous with hosting our out of towners this year. We have record numbers in attendance so there is still a need for some more hosts. If you can spare a couch or floor space, please email Max at housing@campjitterbug.com.

Schedule of events at the beginning of the weekend
Here are the events at the beginning of the weekend…once you receive your registration packet, it will have a full schedule of the weekend.

Friday Night Registration and Check In and Red Square Swing Jam
5:00-6:30pm
Kane Hall Foyer on the University of Washington Campus
Please arrive as early as possible at the Registration at Check In located in the foyer of Kane Hall on the University of Washington campus. You will get your registration packet, Jump Session ticket/s, competition numbers and wristbands at registration. If you cannot make registration on Friday, then please arrive at the Knights of Columbus workshop venue at 10:00am on Saturday morning. Remember, your wristband gets you into all evening dances, so it is important that you check in!
Dance while you wait! Enjoy the Red Square Swing Jam located right outside of Kane Hall before the Jump Session Show.

Friday Night Jump Session Show
7:00-8:45pm
Kane Hall Foyer on the University of Washington Campus
If you have not purchased your Jump Session ticket, email Sheri at jumpsession@campjitterbug.com to reserve your seat!!
Get ready to be inspired…this is truly the highlight of the weekend and is not to be missed. The Jump Session show is a celebration of Jazz dance with the top Lindy Hoppers and performers from around the world. There is no other theatre show quite like it and proceeds benefit Jazz dance programming for kids at Snohomish County Camp Fire USA.

Friday Night Dance & Competition
9:00pm-midnight
HUB Ballroom on the University of Washington Campus
Featuring Jonathan Stout and his Campus Five, join us at the first dance of the weekend. The Open Jack & Jill prelims are on this night which always brings a great energy to the dance!

Saturday Morning Orientation and Check In
10:00-10:30am
Knights of Columbus Ballroom – 722 East Union St
Please show up by 10:00am (classes start at 10:30) to get warmed up and to be welcomed to Camp Jitterbug. We will answer any questions at that time, introduce the helpers, explain the venues, and more important details. Location: Knights of Columbus, 722 East Union Street.

Saturday Morning Advanced and Masters Track Audition
9:30-10:15am
Knights of Columbus Ballroom – 722 East Union St
Please show up by 9:30am (audition starts at 9:45am sharp) (classes start at 10:30) if you are signed up for either the Advanced or Masters track. These are audition only tracks so you MUST show up. Please do not be late since we will have a short amount of time. The audition is very low key...everyone will be rotating between different partners social dancing to mid tempo music. You will be placed in the appropriate track...Intermediate, Advanced or Masters. The decision is relative to the other dancers auditioning.

Now visit campjitterbug.com to see all of the fun in store for the entire weekend!!

ello everyone,

Want to help make CJ even better? Fill out the CJ survey by clicking the link below:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=_2fkd9FQGhk0CvEyy_2fca9H2A_3d_3d

We wanted to thank all of you for helping make this Camp Jitterbug the largest in attendance and most memorable Camp Jitterbug yet. With dancers coming in from all around the world, it was an opportunity to meet new dancers and make so many new friends. Our locals welcomed our out of towners with a record number of dancers hosted...your hospitality is appreciated and thank you to Max for making it happen!

Here are some highlights from the weekend:

-The Jump Session Show also had record attendance and the performers brought so much energy to the stage. Proceeds from the show will go back into the community by teaching youth about Lindy Hop and Jazz dance. Your support is helping spread the love of Lindy Hop!!
-The competitions were incredible...by far the most energy and passion I have seen in years. There were so many new air steps and combinations that the competitors brought to the contest that inspired me.
-The instruction in the workshops was top notch...we had the highest level of dancers show up for auditions than any year. It is refreshing to see dancers at such high levels seeking more knowledge and inspiration.
-The live music was incredible-Campus Five and the Solomon Douglas Swingtet really brought it this year. One of my favorite moments was on Sunday night at the Naval Armory when the dancers surrounded the stage and cheered on the band at the end of the night.
-Room to dance!!! Finally...
-Registration went smoothly...whew.
-After Hours...besides the great dj's, having a spontaneous band form in the back room was awesome.
-Pravda Wrap Party - it was great seeing everyone so happy and full of life after a weekend of no sleep and all dancing.

Every year we strive to make Camp Jitterbug better...we had an incredible team of managers that make this happen. As many of you know, I had a baby just 3 weeks prior to CJ, and could NOT have done this without our team. They have made this camp run smoother than any other year and I want to send a special thank you to them:

Sean Morris - Husband of the Year, Emcee and General Manager
Jo Ann Coker - Registration Coordinator
Casey Schneider - Staff Coordinator
Sheri Yau - Jump Session and Competition Coordinator
Melinda Johnson - Transportation Coordinator
Max Aquino - Housing Coordinator
Robin Nunnally & Freddie Dickinson - After Hours Coordinator
Shayla Miles - Swing Kids president and Friday Evening Events Coordinator

Thank you to all of the Swing Kids that volunteered...you guys are awesome and we really appreciate you!!!!

Thank you to all of our instructors, bands and performers...I can't imagine a more impressive line-up!

And we wouldn't want to forget these folks!
Brent Keane - Web Designer & Photographer
Claire Pedroza - Merchandise
Marc Dodobara - Photographer
Bobby Bonsey - Videographer
Gavin MacDougall - Assistant videographer

And a HUGE thank you to all of the Camp Jitterbug helpers!!!!!!
