We seriously need better Swing Bands.....we need a Swing Band. There really isn't any bands in Iowa that get it. They've lost touch with what Swing Music is all about and the connection they should be having with dancers. I'm sick of driving Hundreds of miles to dance to a kick as band. Lets start our own. Anybody know how to play the tuba? I think a tuba really makes a great swing band.
I will say that I just came across a new swing trio that is starting to get it. The lead singer guy is from Austin and he loves playing for dancers. The band is called Mutiny in the Parlor. They have a really old school style. Pretty fun stuff. They just started out but they have a lot of potential. You should check them out on Myspace or something.
Anyway, the point is we need more good bands. Have you seen any lately? _________________ I don't do Blues but I'll Shag with anyone.

Yeah, more tuba and more washboard. You can never hear enough washboard. _________________ I don't do Blues but I'll Shag with anyone.

you can dance to these guys, but they aren't swing. They are more rockabilly "swing"/blues stuff:

Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers. I like this band, but it is a similiar story, with a little more style:

The Soultones of Swing. This band is really trying, but they just sound so amateur and hollow to me:

They also make a false claim that they are a "high-energy" band. I don't sense that at all.
I know what you are saying. In St. Louis there are a lot of "swing" bands with 18-member orchestras, but they are all playing slower ballroom stuff. When I saw a The Ambassadors of Swing the fastest song they played was "In the Mood." I was holding out for "Caldonia"! Where are the swing bands?

Me and Mary went to the Iowa State Fair this year and saw a man called the Tubadour. Just a rightous old guy with a tuba and a tambourine and he was fantastic to dance to. Tubas are badass.
Also, I think that the Loose Marbles has a tuba as a major part of their rhythm section. They're a heartbeat and they kick ass.
I agree. We get some nice bands around here, but they're out of touch with dancers. (Can't say its their fault, considering who they usually play for.) But it's an uncanny sensation to dance to a band who loves dancers.
I played sax in school, but I have to say I rather hate the instrument. But I've always wanted to pick up the bass. Maybe this is the catalyst to do that. _________________ "What is within shall now be without. / Don't just dance - you must throw down."

Dinn, you would look so sexy behind an upright bass. I could play keys...larrold could play the guitar. We need a clarinet, a trumpet and a tuba and then we'd be swinging hard.
Maybe we really should try to put a band together. We know what good swing music is....we might have to learn how to play instruments but we'd probably be the best swing band here. Whadya say gang? _________________ I don't do Blues but I'll Shag with anyone.

Don't be a hater. What do you have against tubas?! It's an instrument that can change your heartbeat! It's an instrument that you FEEL HIT YOU. They're so effing good, trigger. They are so effing good. _________________ "What is within shall now be without. / Don't just dance - you must throw down."
