So I tried to restore the swing scene at ISU, and I failed....miserably. Things were great at the beginning of the year, but then the memberships just....faded away. I still have about 20 t-shirts leftover. Anybody want a shirt? I've been holding nominations for 2 weeks, and all my 'veteran' members say to me "I'll be President if nobody else will, but I don't want to teach, and I don't think I'll have the time." Nobody seems to care anymore.

It's not that there aren't swing dancers at ISU. There are plenty of swing dancers at student Christian groups, and quite a few swing fans at the modern dance group called "Orchesis 2" at Iowa State, but I guess they just don't like me. Sad (or something) So sad. But oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

I'm sorry to all of you Des Moines people that I haven't been able to visit much. I really wanted to visit you guys during you Thursday night and weekend gigs. But it never worked out for me.

Thanks to all of those who have supported the Cyclone Swing Society. I appreciate the chance to have met all of you and dance with you. I'm sure I would have benefited more had I been more involved, but the past is past.

My future swing plans will hopefully get me more involved in swing dancing in the Twin Cities. That should be a great time.

There there, Paul. That sucks. And I don't think it's you. ISU has been a tough scene ever since I can remember. The Christian group dancers don't really need a swing club to dance because they're already all socially bound together. Same thing with Orchesis. I might do some things differently if I ran the club again, but all in all, I think it's just a tough scene.

I wouldn't take it personally. You worked hard!

Building a swing scene is diff-i-cult!! It takes a lot of work by more than just one person. Look at what Mike has done at UI. It's huge, but it takes constant work. It's not your fault. Thanks for what you have done.

Agreed!

Paul, you did a tremendous job working this year. You continued classes, put on a performance, organized a live band! All in your first year as president!! That's amazing.

Sarah is right -- ISU is a hard scene. Don't worry about the club and have a wonderful future in the Twin Cities. The dancing there is great!

I agree, Paul! You accomplished a lot your first year. It is too much for one person. Have fun in the twin cities. Mary's right the scene it great. Congrats on a job well done and thanks for all your hard work.

Right on! You got everybody scared there for a bit. Make sure that you let the new leaders know that there are many of us willing to help out. We want to see you guys succeed and we are willing to help you. You just have to ask!

And also, we want to see the Cyclones back next year in the Team Competition. Make it happen! Good luck with the club.

Oh I don't know if we could even match what we saw on stage that day. I know I sure can't do any of that. As for the new cabinet, most of them are new swing dancers, so I can't say whether they would compete. And you know, as for the people from ISU that did compete (if they competed at HSF), I don't know who they would have been. Other than Mary and Sarah, I have no idea who would have been part of any competition team, because none of them showed up to any of our meetings. I'll let the new people know to ask all of you for help when needed.

I think you are underestimating what beginners can do. 90% of the UM team were first year dancers and they put together a great routine. They had a lot of creativity and went in with the mind set of having as much fun as possible. They showed us their passion for swing dancing and their dedication and that is the point. Our groups are all there to support each other. Win or lose, the members of these teams learn a lot and have a great time doing it.

Whether or not there is a team, I hope that the Cyclone Swing Society grows and we continue to see ISU dancers at events and hosting events. The more swing dancers there are around the State the better our Swing community will be. Good luck ISU!
