I thought this was a sweet article, and the people at Swing Dance Magazine were totally right: everything they say about improvisation in tap applies to we the Lindy Hoppers (show-stoppers, big winners, sly sinners...).
Sometimes I get on the floor at some cool dance in some big city surrounded by badasses and I am tunnel-visioned just trying not to screw up, because I have this strangely paranoid idea that everyone is watching me and is pretty sure that it's hilarious when I make a mistake. Of course that's not at all true. People don't watch you, especially if all you are doing is concentrating on the bare minimum. It's a liberating feeling for me to realize that no one cares if you're messing up and what we all want to see is people having fun and trying new things. And so after these periodic realizations, improvisation is not only more fun, but it's the reason I go out and dance.
Yah?
